Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Morning tour / Founded in 1987 with just six rescued giant pandas, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has grown from a small rescue center into a global leader in conservation, helping bring the species back from the brink of extinction.

Beyond up-close panda viewing, the base runs "rewilding" programs that prepare captive-born pandas for life in Sichuan's mountain wilderness, and is expanding with the Chengdu Panda International Tourism Resort.

Sanxingdui National Archaeological Site Park: Echoes of an Ancient Kingdom

Afternoon tour / Discovered accidentally in 1929 and brought to global prominence by the massive 1986 excavations, Sanxingdui preserves the lost Shu Kingdom of over 3,000 years ago — proof that Bronze Age civilization in the Yangtze River basin was as advanced as that of the Yellow River. The 2021 excavations of six additional sacrificial pits unveiled further gold masks and silk residues.

The artifacts' "alien-like" aesthetic — colossal bronze masks with protruding eyes, towering bronze trees, intricate gold foils — points to a shamanistic society distinct from the Central Plains cultures of the same era.
